14 tips to look great in all your photos

There will hardly be anyone here who will shy away from clicking themselves – if someone shows distaste, it is mainly because they think their pictures are not made good or they are not photogenic enough. Ever felt jealous of a friend who comes out flawless in pictures? Then, you’re not alone! Being photogenic comes naturally to some people while others have to work towards looking good in photos. Of course a lot of this is in the hands of the photographer but there are things the subject can do to make it look better. It’s not magic, nor is it rocket science – we’ve listed some tips to look stunning in photos, whether it’s selfies or those clicked professionally. A photograph is a two-dimensional image from one angle. The bad thing is that a photo doesn’t show all of your physical attributes as would be seen with the naked eye. But you can learn to hide the features you don’t like and learn to highlight the ones you do like. And the amazing thing – some tips like the following can really help! So, read on!

look good in all photos

1. Never look directly at the camera. Look just above the lens.
2. Tilt your head slightly to get rid of double chin. Also, try to keep your tongue on the roof of your mouth but behind your teeth.
3. A straight upright posture makes you attractive and confident. A freckle makes you look weak and lazy. Your back should be straight and your bones should be stretched out. You can try wearing high heels as they make you stand up straight.
4. Never stand straight in front of the camera as if you have been arrested. Instead, you can try what is commonly referred to as the ‘model pose’. Turn your body 3/4th towards the camera and shift your weight one foot (preferably the foot that is away from the camera). This will not only make you look taller but will also make you look slim.
5. Full body shots should be taken from the level of your navel as it lengthens your legs and improves your proportions.
6. Always face the lights when clicking. Being away from the light can create shadows on your face that are not usually flattering. Preference should be given to natural light.
7. For events and occasions you know you’ll be clicked on, choose colors and ones that suit your body. Also consider your hair color when choosing which color or print to wear.
8. Avoid using SPF foundation or BB cream as they tend to show a white cast in pictures. Plus, orange-tinted lipstick gives your teeth a yellow tint, so avoid wearing them or smiling with your lips closed for a picture.
9. Learn to smile 3/4. Big smiles look unnatural and attention shifts from your pretty face to your rosy gums. Practice smiling in front of the mirror and you will see that your fake smile clearly looks fake and will look the same in pictures. Practice until you find the most flattering smile you can find.
10. When shooting in a seated group, instead of squatting down, sit up straight and relax.
11. If you are doing heavy makeup on the face, then carry it till the neck, otherwise with all the flash lighting, the difference will be visible in the pictures.
12. Don’t skip mascara even if you’re not an eye makeup person. A good mascara will open up your eyes and give you a wide-awake look, even when you’re tired.
13. Flyaway and frizzy hair can totally ruin the look in photos, so apply a hair serum or check out these hacks to tame flyaways.
14. Confidence or lack thereof is always visible on our face. I have seen that even the most ordinary faces glow beautifully without makeup because of the confidence. Have you ever wondered why babies always look amazing in pictures? This is because they are relaxed, playful, uninterested and genuine in expressing their feelings. So, every time someone says cheese, relax and smile confidently.
