Red Hot Summer Lips! – Makeup and Beauty Blog

I am not a fan of Red Hot candies (too spicy), but I do love some matte red lipstick!

Yesterday’s Monday poll question about matte red lipstick inspired this makeup look with glowing skin, softly defined brows, lush lids, pearlescent lids, and a matte orange-red lip.

It’s amazing how heavy a red lip can lift, and equally amazing how I forget this lesson over and over again, lol! When I put on this red lipstick yesterday (it’s mac quite extraordinary, by the way), once again I realized how red lips can make up most of the makeup because it’s such a strong focal point. One really doesn’t need much to round out the look.

As opposed to the opaque matte lip, I went with a sheer, glossy base with sheer pearls (Rose Ink Skin Enhance in 80) where I needed more, only concealer (Hourglass Retouching Fluid in Sand) Coverage with a touch of — under my eyes and on my upper lip, and oh, side note, that pigmented mustache be damned.

I set the concealer areas with a tiny touch of powder by loading a small face brush with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Golden. I removed most of the powder before lightly patting the brush head on my face.

I also wanted to play with texture, so I blended a cream blush (Chanel Les Beige No. 25) on my cheeks, and dabbed a pearlescent liquid highlighter (MAC Strobe Cream) on my cheekbones and lids.

To complete the look, I slowly filled in the browbones and parted long, lush lashes to keep it fresh and summery.

I think this look could also be lovely with a glossy coral lipgloss or lip tint!
